I wish we could have stayed in Belize longer but we had an amazing 3 day trip to Belize. Here’s what we did!
Day 1
We arrived to San Pedro via Maya Island Air and was picked up by our hotel, PUR (they were AMAZING btw and we got our own private plunge pool).
Once we checked into our bungalow and had our complimentary Rum drink, we headed to the beach just a few steps away.
We then had dinner at PURs taco bar. My husband ate the insanely HUGE burrito (only $11 USD and finished it!!) while I enjoyed the quesadilla ($12 USD). Both were delicious and huge portions! We also shared the chips and queso ($5 USD) but I would not recommend it. It was literally melted cheese on top of corn chips- pretty flavorless and bland.
We decided to take our first day pretty easy since we had a long travel day from Texas. So we enjoyed our plunge pool and headed to bed.
Day 2
Day 2 started with a workout and meditation on the beach (there was a highly ranked yoga studio a few minutes up the road if you are interested).
We then walked a few minutes up the road to “Marbucks”. A cute boutique hotel that serves breakfast. We enjoyed egg sandwiches and mimosas. Make sure you utilize the hot sauces in Belize, they are DELICIOUS! Our favorites were the Smokey habanero and the mild orange habanero (you can also purchase these hot sauces at the BZE airport). They also do 2 for $20 mimosas on Sundays ($5 USD a mimosa).
We checked a golf cart out at our hotel and drove the 30 minutes to the secret beach. The drive is pretty bumpy to the beach but it’s not too bad. You basically follow one road all the way to the beach and it’s easily marked.
When you get to secret beach, you need to pick a restaurant to drink and eat at. This is the only way you can sit in the beach chairs and swim in the water. We chose Pirates but they all looked good. We loved Pirates shrimp ceviche and I would highly recommend it! You could spend a good amount of time at Secret Beach. The water is crystal clear and the waist length sand bar goes out for quite a while.
After driving back to our hotel to freshen up. We headed to the Truck Stop for dinner. This is a food truck round up with a variety of cuisines and live music! They also have a pool, viewing deck and outdoor games. Make sure to get the sweet corn ice cream! It’s local
Day 3
This was our snorkel day with Island Dreams. We had a blast! We paid $135 a person for an 8 hour boat trip with breakfast (French toast sandwich), snacks (fruit and ceviche), lunch (bbq ribs, jerk chicken, rice and slaw), plus unlimited drinks (cocktails, beer, water, soft drinks). Totally worth it!
The crew is very attentive, fun and knowledgeable. They take you to two snorkel spots. The first being on the barrier reef. You get divided into groups and a guide takes you around the reef for about 45 minutes and provides information for you. The current can get strong at some points so don’t be ashamed to use the life vests. We were able to see a baby nurse shark, eel and sea turtle during our trip!
Your second stop is the shark and sting ray alley. Don’t worry about swimming with sharks. They are used to the boats coming with food and only care about the fish chum. We got to swim next to the sharks for about 30 minutes.
You last stop is out to Caye Caulker where you get to explore the town for 90 minutes. Afterwards you head home on the party boat. Fun music, drinks and shots for the whole boat! It was a great time. Make sure you get the Blue Hole drink! It’s so creamy with the coconut milk!
After our tour and cleaning up. We headed down town to stop by the Belize chocolate company. Belize has delicious chocolate since they grow cocoa in Belize. Make sure to get their world famous chocolate chip cookies!
Afterwords we grabbed dinner on the roof top bar, Anglers. Prices were pretty fair! The surf and turf burger is delicious!
Day 4
We ended our trip by walking on the beach and then heading into to town to get breakfast at Boogies Belly. Oh my word was the food soooo good! We got a burrito and fry jack and only paid $5 USD. I wish we went more than once! Boogies is pretty much on the beach so take your food to go and eat with the view of the ocean.
We then enjoyed the beach and pool at PUR and ordered lunch before we headed to the San Pedro airport. Once again the portions at PUR were huge and the food was great! We enjoyed their tacos and salad.
Our trip to San Pedro was quick, yet very relaxing! A few places/things we wanted to do but just didn’t have time for:
- ATM cave tubing (you can get a tour that takes you from the island to the cave inland)
- Blue Hole (it was just too pricey for us to justify it)
- Dinner at crocs. Supposed to have good food and a great view of the sunset!
