A Quick Trip to Hartford

Hartford, Connecticut. The insurance capital. Skyscrapers. Delicious Food. Hartford should definitely be on your quick list for a last minute weekend. With only be 2 hours from NYC, it’s easily assessable for those of you who live on the east coast.

Your Day

After grabbing breakfast, start your day with renting a bike. Hartford is very easy to walk around to and is very biking friendly. You can grab a bike off the street with LimeBike (Hartford’s first Bikeshare program). You will see them throughout the whole city. Download the app, ride the bike and lock it up when you are done. SUPER simple.

While on your bike, you are going to go to Bushnell Park. A cute Central Park in the city filled with monuments, views of the skyscrapers and the Capital building. Enjoy looking at the water features and ride the carousel, if it’s open!

You will be right next to the capital building, so hope on over there. It is quite a beautiful capital building. Every hour from 9am-5pm, they offer free one hour tours or feel free to roam the building on your own.

Afterwards, you will bike about 2.5 miles to the Elizabeth Park Rose Garden.

Afterwards, go grab lunch at Blacked Eyed Sally’s. Delicious southern food with live jazz music. The cornbread and brown sugar butter is to DIE for! The portions are huge, so share with your travel buddy for a lunch size. Right above the restaurant is also a bar called, “Pig Eyes Pub” and on Wednesday they do $1, 23 Oz beers!

Now that you are filled up! Walk to the Mark Twain house and explore the museum. There are a few galleries to walk through and even a free movie to watch! Pay $20 and you get to go on a guided tour of the 11,000+ square foot home. You will learn so much information about the home and Mark Twain! If you attend the last tour of the day (4:30pm) you may even get a little bit longer of time to explore the 3 story home.

End your night with grabbing dinner at anyone of Hartford’s high rated restaurants such as Salute (an Italian restaurant with cheap cocktails, award winning cheesy bread and fried calamari with DELICIOUS sour peppers).

Hartford has a lot of food and history to offer! You can also grab a show at one of the many performance centers or stroll around one of their parks, you won’t regret it!
